Abstract

Se describe un procedimiento para producir ácido sulfurico concentrado en una fase líquida a partir de una fuente de dioxido de azufre; el procedimiento comprende convertir la fuente de dioxido de azufre de ácido sulfurico; la fase líquida comprende: ácido nítrico a una concentracion suficiente para comenzar la conversion de dioxido de azufre en ácido sulfurico en presencia de oxígeno y en ausencia inicial de ácido sulfurico; ácido nítrico a una concentracion suficiente para mantener la conversion de dioxido de azufre en presencia deácido sulfurico, ya se generado por dicha conversion o presente al comienzo de dicha conversion; y concentracion combinada de ácido nítrico y ácido sulfurico que varía de 5M a 16M, en donde la concentracion de ácido nítrico es de por lo menos 5M en ausencia inicial de ácido sulfurico, y se introduce una fuente de oxígeno a la fase acuosa a una concentracion suficiente para proveer dicha conversion catalítica de SO2 y H2SO4.
