Abstract
La presente invención se relaciona con el suelo y las cajas de baterías contaminadas con plomo, que se descontaminan o corrigen empleando un horno de arco eléctricamente (de plasma) que piroliza el suelo y las cajas de baterías, con el fin de formar respectivamente una escoria vitrificada y un gas combustible. El gas combustible junto con el plomo volatizado ( y otros metales pesados que pueden estar presentes) se transfieren en un horno de fundición convencional y se usan como un combustible primario en el mismo. El plomo volatizado que es atrapado en el gas combustible es transferido así el equipo de control/protección ambiental y recuperación asociado con el horno de fundición. Por otro lado, el suelo se convierte en una escoria vitrificada no tóxica (es decir, de acuerdo con el Procedimiento de Lixiviación Característico de la Toxicidad) por el arco eléctricamente neutro la cual puede ser triturada y usada como un material comercial (por ejemplo, en agregados de partículas para caminos, material rellenador asfáltico o lo similar) o simplemente se transfiere a un terraplén o relleno de terreno, en donde no se le incorpora ningún tratamiento adicional.
