Abstract

Esta invención está relacionada, en general, con el campo de la tecnología de envasado de productos vegetales, como frutas y hortalizas frescas enteras que suelen tener cierta carga microbiana superficial. Concretamente, esta invención se refiere a un nuevo envase de cartón que se caracteriza por tener un recubrimiento activo antimicrobiano, a base de un compuesto polimérico en combinación con aceites esenciales que forman complejos de inclusión con ciclodextrinas. Los vapores de los aceites esenciales se desprenden del cartón a medida que se alcanzan humedades relativas suficientemente elevadas en las inmediaciones de este recubrimiento que está junto al producto envasado, y estos vapores tienen una acción antimicrobiana frente a hongos, levaduras y bacterias, tanto alterantes de la calidad del producto como patógenos para los consumidores. Este nuevo envase consigue aumentar de forma significativa la seguridad alimentaria y la vida útil de los alimentos que se envasan en el mismo.
