Abstract

La presente invención se refiere a un método para producir ácido levulínico a partir de biomasa lignocelulósica que comprende hemicelulosa que incluye uno o más precursores de compuestos de cadena de seis carbonos, comprendiendo el método las etapas de: hidrolizar la biomasa lignocelulósica para formar en un reactor de hidrólisis a una temperatura a de aproximadamente 170°C a 185°C durante aproximadamente 35 minutos aproximadamente 60 minutos una primera fase que comprende la biomasa lignocelulósica parcialmente hidrolizada que incluye celulosa y lignina y una segunda fase que comprende uno o más de azúcares de cadena de cinco carbnos y uno o más de azúcares de cadena de seis carbonos de la degradación de la hemicelulosa; separar la primera fase de la segunda fase; y convertir al menos una porción de los uno o más azúcares de cadena de cinco carbonos de furfutal, un intermedio de reacción de furfural, alquitrán, o una combinación de los mismos en presencia de uno o más de azúcares de cadena de seis carbonos; y separar al menos una porción de furfural, un intermedio de reacción de furfural, alquitrán o una combinación de los mismos a partir de los uno o más azúcares de cadena de seis carbonos, y posteriormente convertir al menos una porción de los uno o más azúcares de cadena de seis carbonos a ácido levulínico en un reactor de conversión de azúcar de cadena de seis carbonos a una temperatura de aproximadamente 190°C a aproximadamente 220°C pro 20 minutos aproximadamente 60 minutos.
