Abstract

La invención se refiere a un proceso para la eliminación biológica del nitrógeno de las aguas residuales, caracterizado porque comprende: (a) proporcionar una corriente de aguas residuales comprendiendo amonio; (b) suministrar continuamente la corriente de aguas residuales a un reactor conteniendo lodo granular comprendiendo gránulos con un núcleo de bacterias ananmox y un borde externo de bacterias oxidantes de amonio. (c) someter las aguas residuales a un reactor de oxidación de amonio bajo condiciones de oxidación de amonio comprendiendo una temperatura en el intervalo de 5 a 25°C, una concentración de oxígeno disuelto en el agua residual en el intervalo de, , 0.4mg/L a, , 4.0mg/L y un tiempo de retención hidráulico de las aguas residuales en el reactor en el intervalo de 0.5 hora a 1.5 día, para obtener una corriente gaseosa comprendiendo nitrógeno y una dispersión de lodo granular y no granular en el agua residual tratada; y (d) separar continuamente la dispersión obtenida en la corriente comprendiendo lodo granular y una corriente comprendiendo el agua tratada y lodo no granular y reciclar la corriente comprendiendo el lodo granular en el reactor y descargar el lodo no granular del proceso, donde el lodo granular tiene un tiempo de retención en el reactor de al menos diez veces el tiempo de retención hidráulico, y donde el tiempo de retención de cualquier lodo no granular en el reactor es igual a, o a lo más, tres veces el tiempo de retención hidráulico.
