Abstract
La presente invención se refiere a un sistema para cultivar células de algas que comprende: una fuente de un inóculo de las células de algas; al menos un recipiente para contener una fuente de medio de crecimiento; una pluralidad de estanques abiertos conectados en comunicación fluida selectiva entre sí, con la pluralidad de estanques abiertos dispuestos en secuencia desde un primer estanque corriente arriba con un último estanque corriente abajo, en donde cada estanque corriente abajo tiene una predeterminada área superficial exponencial mayor respecto a su estanque corriente arriba adyacente en donde un cociente de un área superficial para cada estanque relacionado a un área superficial de un estanque adyacente corresponde a un multiplicador fijo, y en donde el multiplicador fijo se basa en la tasa de crecimiento de las algas utilizadas para el cultivo; una pluralidad conductos de transferencia que incluye un primer conducto de transferencia colocado para transferir el inóculo desde la fuente al primer estanque corriente arriba para crear ahí un cultivo para cl crecimiento de algas, la pluralidad de conductos de transferencia colocados para proporcionar transferencias subsecuentes del cultivo desde el primer estanque corriente arriba para sucesivos estanques corriente abajo para crecimiento adicional de las algas; una pluralidad de bombas, en donde cada bomba es conectada a un estanque respectivo y al menos un recipiente de medio de crecimiento para agregar medio de crecimiento al cultivo en el estanque respectivo para soportar una tasa de crecimiento de las células de algas, y en donde una transferencia de cultivo desde un estanque corriente arriba a su estanque corriente abajo adyacente se logra cuando el estanque corriente abajo adyacente ha sido vaciado; y un último conducto de transferencia conectado a al menos un estanque corriente abajo para transferir selectivamente las células de algas desde el último estanque corriente abajo aun estanque de formación de aceite si es requerido, cuando se determina que las células de algas en el último estanque corriente abajo están completamente desarrolladas.
