Abstract

Es descrito un sistema/método que permite la alteración de la hidrofilicidad de un material polimérico (PM). La alteración de la hidrofilicidad PM cambia las características PM al disminuir el índice refractivo PM, al incrementar la conductividad eléctrica PM, y al incrementar el peso PM. El sistema/método incorpora una fuente de radiación del láser que genera impulsos fuertemente enfocados de láser dentro de una porción de tres dimensiones del PM que afectan estos cambios en las propiedades PM. El sistema/método podría ser aplicado a la formación de lentes intraoculares personalizados que comprenden un material (PLM) en donde el lente creado utilizando el sistema/método es quirúrgicamente posicionado dentro del ojo del paciente. El índice refractivo de lente implantado podría ser entonces opcionalmente alterado en el lugar con impulsos de láser para cambiar las propiedades ópticas del lente implantado y de esta manera, se consigue una visión corregida óptima del paciente. Este sistema/método permite numerosas modificaciones en el lugar de un lente implantado a medida que cambia con la edad la visión del paciente.
