Abstract

Un proceso para autolimpiar una celda electrolítica conlleva introducir una corriente de agua de mar en la celda electrolítica que tiene al menos un cátodo y un ánodo. El el cátodo y el ánodo están revestidos esencialmente en su totalidad con una composición de revestimiento. Se aplica una polarización directa entre el ánodo y el cátodo a una primera densidad de corriente a medida que el agua de mar fluye entre los electrodos. Posteriormente, se proporciona una polarización inversa en el cátodo. La polarización inversa se proporciona a una segunda densidad de corriente que es menor que la primera densidad de corriente. Cuando se aplica la polarización inversa, la polaridad del cátodo se invierte durante un breve período. Esto facilita la generación de una pequeña cantidad de ácido clorhídrico en la superficie del cátodo anterior que provoca la disolución de los depósitos de calcio, magnesio o de otros depósitos en la superficie de los electrodos sin dañar la composición de revestimiento de los electrodos.
