Abstract
Se describen métodos y sistemas para tratar relaves a un pH elevado usando cal se describen en la presente. En algunas modalidades, el método comprende (i) proporcionar una corriente de relaves que comprende bicarbonatos y un pH menor que 9.0, (ii) agregar un coagulante que comprende hidróxido de calcio a la corriente de relaves para formar una mezcla que tiene un pH de al menos 11.5 y un nivel de calcio soluble no mayor de 800 mg/L, y (iii) deshidratar la mezcla para producir un producto que tiene un contenido de sólidos de al menos 40% en peso. En algunas modalidades, el pH y nivel de calcio soluble de la mezcla causan modificación química de materiales de arcilla de la mezcla por medio de reacciones puzolánicas. En algunas modalidades, la resistencia al corte no drenado del producto aumenta durante un periodo de tiempo de al menos dos días.
