Abstract

Se proporciona un método para producir uno o más compuestos de sesquiterpeno que comprende: poner en contacto un precursor de FPP acíclico con un polipéptido que tiene una actividad de terpeno sintasa, en donde el polipéptido comprende una secuencia de los aminoácidos que tiene al menos 55 % de identidad de la secuencia con la SEC ID NO:1, para producir uno o más terpenos seleccionados del grupo que consiste de isovalenceno, espirovetiva-1(10),7(11)-dieno y valenceno o derivados de los mismos, o una mezcla de sesquiterpenos que comprende uno o más del isovalenceno, espirovetiva-1(10),7(11)-dieno y/o valenceno; y aislar opcionalmente uno o más terpenos de la mezcla. También se describe un ácido nucleico derivado de Vetiveria zizanoides que codifica un polipéptido que tiene una actividad de sesquiterpeno sintasa, un polipéptido que se puede usar para producir uno o más sesquiterpenos o una mezcla de sesquiterpenos que comprende uno o más del isovalenceno, espirovetiva-1(10),7(11)-dieno y/o valenceno, y una célula u organismo no humano que comprende el ácido nucleico o que comprende un vector de expresión que comprende el ácido nucleico.
