Abstract

Los procesos para producir cromo metálico o aleaciones que contienen cromo con bajo contenido de nitrógeno que evitan que el nitrógeno en la atmósfera circundante sea transportado al interior del elemento fundido o sea absorbido por el cromo metálico o aleación que contiene cromo durante la reacción metalotérmica incluyen la desgasificación al vacío de una mezcla de termita que comprende compuestos metálicos y polvos reductores metálicos contenida en un recipiente al vacío, encendido de la mezcla de termita para efectuar la reducción de los compuestos metálicos dentro del recipiente a presión reducida, es decir, por debajo de 1 bar y llevar a cabo la totalidad de la reacción de reducción en dicho recipiente a presión reducida, inclusive solidificación y enfriamiento, para producir un producto final con un contenido de nitrógeno inferior a 10 ppm; los productos finales obtenidos, además de cromo metálico con contenido bajo de nitrógeno en combinación con otros elementos, pueden utilizarse como materia prima para fabricar superaleaciones, acero inoxidable y otros aceros especiales, cuyo contenido final de nitrógeno está por debajo de 10 ppm.
