Abstract
Se describe aquí un método de reducción de la población de microorganismos patógenos en una composición de alimento nutritivo en polvo. La composición de alimento nutritivo en polvo incluye una grasa, una proteína y un carbohidrato. El método incluye formar una emulsión de la composición de alimento nutritivo en polvo y extruir la composición de alimento nutritivo en polvo a una temperatura menor de aproximadamente 100°C. El método produce una reducción de por lo menos 5 unidades logarítmicas de la población de microorganismos patógenos en la composición de alimento nutritivo en polvo extruida. La composición de alimento nutritivo en polvo extruida tiene un nivel de actividad de agua de aproximadamente 0.3 a aproximadamente 0.95.
