Abstract
La presente invención se refiere a una celda electrolítica para la producción de metales de tierras raras. La celda que se proporciona con uno o más canales inclinados colocados en el piso del alojamiento de celda, uno o varios canales a lo largo de los cuales los metales de tierras raras fundidas producidos en la celda electrolítica pueden drenar. Uno o más cátodos están suspendidos dentro del alojamiento de celda en alineación sustancialmente vertical con uno o más canales. Las superficies opuestas respectivas de uno o más cátodos están inclinadas hacia abajo y hacia afuera en un ángulo con respecto a la vertical. Uno o más pares de ánodos están suspendidos dentro del alojamiento de celda, cada ánodo en uno o más pares tiene una superficie enfrentada inclinada desde la vertical y separada en alineación en paralelo con las superficies inclinadas opuestas respectivas uno o más cátodos para definir una distancia ánodo-cátodo sustancialmente constante entre las mismas. La celda electrolítica también incluye un recolector para recibir metales de tierras raras fundidos desde el canal, en donde el recolector está separado y aislado de uno o más cátodos y uno o más ánodos. La separación de los metales de tierras raras fundidos del cátodo(s) y el ánodo(s) previene la reacción y/o contaminación con el carbono fugitivo que surge desde el ánodo(s) o la reacción inversa con los gases de escape.
