Abstract

Se describe un proceso para elaborar bis(ariloxialquil)tereftalato s útiles como antiplastificantes para poliésteres termoplásticos; tereftalato de dimetilo se hace reaccionar con un exceso de un ariloxialcanol en la presencia de un catalizador de condensación para producir una mezcla intermedia que comprende un bis(ariloxialquil)tereftalato, un mono(ariloxialquil)tereftalato, y ariloxialcanol sin reaccionar; esta mezcla continua para reaccionar a presión reducida mientras el ariloxialcanol sin reaccionar se extrae y el contenido de mono-éster se reduce a menos de 1% en mol con base en las cantidades combinadas de los ésteres mono- y bis-; ambas etapas se llevan a cabo sustancialmente en la ausencia de oxígeno; después el ariloxialcanol sin reaccionar se extrae para proveer un bis(ariloxialquil)tereftalato purificado que tiene una pureza total de al menos 98% en mol y un índice de amarillez menor a 10; el control cuidadoso sobre la catálisis, la exposición al aire, y otras condiciones de proceso permite la preparación de altos rendimientos de bis(ariloxialquil)tereftalatos que tienen escaso color y otros atributos valiosos; también se describe un método de producción de artículos de bis(ariloxialquil)tereftalato que tienen una resistencia a la compresión mejorada.
