Abstract

Se describen estructuras alveolares cerámicas y métodos para elaborarlas. Las estructuras pueden estar comprendidas por al menos dos alveolos cerámicos más pequeños separados que se han recubierto con un polímero para crear un recubrimiento de barrera polimérica y adheridos con un cemento comprendido por fibras inorgánicas y una fase de unión que se encuentra comprendida por silicato amorfo, aluminita o fibra de vidrio de aluminosilicato y otras partículas inorgánicas. El polímero se selecciona de manera tal que sea penetrable en los poros en la estructura alveolar o para cubrirlos a fin de formar una capa de barrera delgada sobre la misma para atenuar la migración de las fibras inorgánicas, la fase de unión y el agua en los poros. El polímero está adaptado para quemarse o descomponerse a temperaturas de cocción del cemento y del forro alveolar o inferiores, o a temperaturas operativas del alveolo o inferiores durante la aplicación para crear una estructura alveolar que, cuando se forma en un filtro de escape, no tenga ningún incremento no deseado en la caída de presión debido a la migración del cemento.
