Abstract
Esta invención se refiere a un vidrio con bajo contenido de hierro de alta transmisión que incluye óxido de boro. El óxido de boro, agregado a este vidrio con bajo contenido de hierro, tiene el efecto de mejorar la refinación, homogeneidad y calidad del vidrio (recuento más bajo de semillas) a través de su acción de fundente y mejora los parámetros ópticos del vidrio verde y claro a través del cambio en el índice de refracción y la tensión superficial. El óxido de boro conduce a una banda de absorción más ancha y más débil de elemento(s) de transición tal(es) como el hierro lo cual mejora adicionalmente la transmitancia del vidrio claro con bajo contenido de hierro en ciertas modalidades ejemplares de esta invención. En ciertas modalidades ejemplares, la adición de óxido de boro en ciertas cantidades es ventajosa debido a que mejora la durabilidad química del vidrio al disminuir el valor USPX (o USPXIII) del vidrio por vía de la supresión del sílice, iones de sodio en la estructura del vidrio.
