Abstract

Cuando se produce ácido sulfúrico a partir de un gas que contiene dióxido de azufre, el dióxido de azufre es oxidado catalíticamente en un convertidor para obtener trióxido de azufre, el trióxido de azufre producido de esta manera es absorbido en ácido sulfúrico concentrado en un absorbedor intermedio, y el gas residual posiblemente es nuevamente suministrado a una etapa de conversión catalítica. El trióxido de azufre producido puede ser luego absorbido en ácido sulfúrico concentrado en un absorbedor final. Para simplificar la configuración y control de la planta también para gases de alimentación con altos contenidos de SO2, se provee, de acuerdo con la invención, que la concentración de entrada del ácido al absorbedor intermedio sea de cerca de 97,3 a 98,4 % de H2SO4.
