Abstract

Un conjunto de cátodo electrolítico, típicamente utilizado en la refinación o extracción de metales, tiene una barra de soporte que es eléctricamente conductora y una placa de sedimentación unida a lo largo de un extremo superior de la barra de soporte para definir una junta. El conjunto de cátodo comprende además una cubierta protectora que tiene bordes laterales y que rodea la barra de soporte y una parte del extremo superior de la placa de soporte de tal forma que encierra sustancialmente la junta y deja las partes de los extremos de la barra de soporte expuestas fuera de los bordes laterales de la cubierta protectora. Cada extremo de la cubierta protectora incluye un material resistente a la corrosión colocado de tal manera que forma un sello sustancialmente continuo entre la cubierta protectora y la barra de soporte, mediante lo cual al menos dificulta el flujo de fluido hacia dentro de la cubierta protectora. También se describen métodos para fabricar y usar los conjuntos de cátodo electrolítico.
