Abstract
La presente invención se refiere a un procedimiento mejorado para preparar paraxileno por medio de la reacción catalítica de tolueno y un agente metilante, en el que la mejora está caracterizada en que comprende emplear un catalizador de sílice cristalina y, como promotor del mismo, un miembro del grupo que consiste de óxido de arsenico, óxido de fosfóro, óxido de magnesio, óxido de boro, óxido de antimonio, silice amorfa, óxido de metal alcalinoterreo, carbonatos de metal alcalinoterreo y mezcla y precursores de los anteriores, y el promotor está presente en una cantidad de entre 0 y aproximadamente 50 por ciento, basado en el peso total del óxido de metal en el catalizador.
