Abstract
1,256,202. Alkyl adamantanes. INSTITUT NEFTEKHIMICHESKOGO SINTEZA IMENI A.V. TOPCHIEVA AKADEMII NAUK. 19 March, 1970, No. 13387/70. Heading C5E. Alkyladamantanes are produced by isomerizing a tricyclic saturated condensed hydrocarbon of more than 10 carbon atoms at 180-320‹ C. with a solid catalyst comprising an oxide of Group III or IV element treated with a mineral acid or with a catalyst comprising an aluminium silicate. The preferred catalysts are Al 2 O 3 or SiO 2 treated with H 2 SO 4 or HF. Examples describe the preparation of dimethyl- and ethyl-adamantanes from perhydro-acenaphthene; tri-methyl- and ethyl, methyl adamantanes from perhydrofluorene; and tetramethyl- and ethyl, dimethyl adamantanes from perhydroanthracene.
