Abstract

La presente invención se refiere a en un procedimientopara la fabricasión de ácido sulfúrico que comprende la combustión de una fuente de azufre con un gas que contiene oxígeno en una caldera para poducir una corriente de gas de combustión que comprende dióxido de azufre y oxígeno un paso de corriente de gas a traves de una pluralidad de etapas de catalizador para comversión progresiva de dióxido de azufre a trióxido de azufre, la recuperación del calor en forma útil por su enfriamiento de la corriente de gas que sale en cada una de las etapas de catalizador, el peso de la corriente de gas enfriado de una de dichas etapas a traves de una zona de absorción donde la corrinete de gas es puesta en contacto conb ácido sulfúrico para promover trióxido de azufre de ka fase gaseosa, y retorno de la corriente de gas de dichas sona a una etapa adicional de dicha pluralidad de estapas, la mejora comprende: introducir vapor de agua en la corriente de gas a un punto de dicha caldera y la zona de absorción, porlo menos una porción de vapor de agua reaccionando con trióxido de azufre en la face gaseosa para producir ácido sulfurico en la fase gaseosa; y recuperar dicha energía de calor de corriente de gas equivalente a por lo menos una porción del calor formación de la face del vapor de ácido sulfúrico, siendo dicha energía de vapor recuperada en la corriente que tiene una presión de vapor de menos 2.5 barias superior que la presión de dicho vapor de agua como se introdujo en la corriente de gas.
