Abstract
La presente invención se refiere a un proceso para controlar la composición de escoria de un baño de metal en un recipiente de forro refractario durante el proceso de refinar el baño por la inyección de oxígeno gaseoso durante un período de oxidación y mediante la inyección de un gas o gases no oxidantes durante un período de reducción y ajuste de especificación de fundido tal que la escoria al completarse el proceso de refinación tenga una composición que consistente esencialmente de A por ciento de alúmina (A12O3) B por ciento de sílice (SiO2), C por ciento de CaO y D por ciento de MgO, y una relación de alúmina a sílice igual al valor de A/B, el proceso comprendiendo los pasos de: 1) agregar aluminio y silicio al baño como componentes de combustible, en una proporción combinada de 0 a 100 por ciento de aluminio y el resto de Si, para producir una elevación de temperatura en el baño a un nivel al completarse el período predeterminado de oxidación y proveer una proporción de alúmina a sílice que es substancialmente igual al valor de A/B.
