Description

The invention relates to agriculture, namely to a process for breeding grain moth, which can be used to protect agricultural crops.

The process of infecting the nutrient substrate for insect breeding is known, which involves distributing host eggs of the grain moth (Sitotroga cerealella Oliv) on paper cards placed on the barley seed substrate, and to maintain optimal conditions for larval development, it involves mixing and moistening the seeds daily throughout the entire preimaginal development period of the moth. Subsequently, the infected substrate is loaded into containers, which are then placed in special boxes where further development of the insects takes place until the flight phase and collection of adults [1].

The disadvantage of this process is that to ensure optimal conditions for larval development, daily seed mixing and wetting operations are necessary throughout the entire development period of the moth larvae, until the butterflies begin to fly, which leads to an increase in the number of technological operations, increased labor and energy costs, increased harmful working conditions for personnel and, last but not least, an increase in the degree of trauma to the biological material.

The problem solved by the invention consists in creating optimal conditions for insect development, improving the efficiency of the process of obtaining host eggs used further for the propagation of parasitoids and predators, reducing the degree of trauma to biological material, improving the working conditions of personnel and reducing labor and energy costs.

The essence of the grain moth breeding process consists in evenly distributing moth eggs on a layer of barley seeds, no more than 8…10 cm thick, in a ratio of 1 g to 1 kg of seeds, in a container with walls made of mesh or perforated material, with holes of 1.5…2.0 mm, with subsequent maintenance of it at a temperature of 25…27°C and a relative air humidity of 75…80%.

The result is to reduce the degree of trauma and ensure optimal conditions for the development of biological material.

The infection of the nutrient substrate takes place directly in the containers, distributing the eggs of the grain moth (Sitotroga cerealella Oliv) evenly on the barley seed substrate, in a determined ratio. The construction of the container with the walls of the mesh or perforated material excludes the need for daily mixing and wetting of the seeds throughout the entire period of development of the moth larvae, until the beginning of the flight of the butterflies. The optimal conditions for the development of the larvae are maintained indirectly by adjusting the microclimatic parameters of the air balance in the room where the given technological operation is carried out.

The invention is explained by the drawing in the figure, which represents the overall scheme of a container for growing insects and obtaining biological material. The container includes: body 1, side walls 2, removable lid 3, handle 4, fastener 5.

The container is used as follows. In the maintenance chamber, the nutrient substrate prepared for infection is loaded, closed with the removable lid 3 and installed in a horizontal position on a shelf in special boxes. The eggs of the grain moth, using a sieve, are evenly distributed on the substrate of barley seeds, penetrating through the holes in the side wall of the container. Under optimal conditions, maintained automatically, the preimaginal development of insects takes place. After a period of 25…30 days, the flight of butterflies begins, which are collected specifically to obtain the necessary amount of eggs for the growth of entomophagous insects, especially the parasitoid trichogramma.

The result is due to the fact that the grain moth breeding process is carried out in a container with walls made of mesh or perforated material, with holes of 1.5…2.0 mm. Maintaining the container at a temperature of 25…27°C and a relative air humidity of 75…80% ensures optimal conditions for insect development, while reducing the degree of trauma to the biological material.
