Abstract
Description
The invention relates to beekeeping, namely to a process for feeding Apis mellifera bee colonies.
Throughout the year, in different periods of the seasons, such as the end of winter and the beginning of spring, bee colonies are attacked by a series of pathogens of different origin: microbial, viral, fungal, parasitic, etc. Naturally, the bee immune system resists pathogens. The bee colony has an innate instinct of hygiene, expressed by the elimination of larvae and dead bees from the hive, the isolation and elimination of foreign bodies and impurities. The speed of elimination of dead larvae from the combs correlates directly proportionally with the resistance to diseases of bee colonies, which is determined by the immune system and influenced by environmental factors, such as: the quantity and quality of both natural and supplementary food administered by the beekeeper, care and disease prevention measures, etc.
To increase the vitality and strengthen the resistance to diseases of bee colonies, beekeepers apply various processes and means of feeding bees with nutritional supplements that contain, along with energy-protein components, biologically active substances that stimulate the vital functions of bees and contribute to increasing their immunity.
A process is known for feeding bees with a mixture of sugar syrup and suspension of the Bacillus subtilis 11B strain, with a cell concentration of 1x105…1x108 per 1 mL of sugar syrup, and feeding the bees is carried out within 30 days, to stimulate the physiological functions of the bees and protect them against infectious diseases, which possess a high level of enzymatic activity and a broad spectrum of antibacterial action [1].
The disadvantage of this process is that the duration of application of the supplement is too long, and the use of the suspension of the Bacillus subtilis 11B strain of bacteria, as a medicinal product applied in human medicine and, simultaneously, in beekeeping, leads to increased tolerance of microorganisms to the drug and a decrease in its therapeutic effect.
The closest solution, according to the technical essence and the result obtained, is the process of feeding Apis mellifera bee colonies, which includes feeding the bees in the spring with a mixture of a 1% mass solution of extract from the microalgae biomass of Spirulina platensis CNM-CB-02 and 50% sugar syrup taken in a ratio of 1:500, respectively, the microalgae biomass of Spirulina platensis being cultivated in the presence of the coordinating organic compound with immunomodulatory properties - Fe(III) selenite hexahydrate - FeSeO3·6H2O, which catalyzes some important functions in the vital activity of bees, and feeding the bees with the mixture is carried out in April in an amount of 100...130 mL of the mixture per frame with bees, every 2 days, for two weeks [2].
The disadvantage of this process is that the technology for obtaining the extract of the microalgae Spirulina platensis biomass, cultivated in the presence of the coordinating compound, is too complicated and expensive, and the sugar syrup mixture enriched with the supplement of bioactive substances cannot be used in winter or early spring due to its high humidity, which releases a large amount of vapor in the hive during the period when the bees are in the wintering nest.
The problem solved by the present invention consists in developing a process for feeding bee colonies at the end of winter and the beginning of spring (February - March), when there is a shortage of natural foraging when atmospheric temperatures are low, which ensures the bees' needs for easily digestible and accessible, less expensive biologically active nutrients, which contribute to increasing the efficiency of using nutrients from algae biomass, stimulating immunomodulatory processes in the bees' body, increasing the viability of the brood and strengthening the resistance of Apis mellifera bee colonies to diseases.
The feeding process for Apis mellifera bee colonies involves feeding them at the end of winter or early spring with a mixture of powdered sugar and honey, taken in a ratio of 7:3 respectively, with the addition of a 2% suspension of biomass of the microalgae strain Oocystis borgei Snow CNMN-AV-08 in an amount of 8…12 mL per 1 kg of mixture, while feeding the bees is carried out only once in an amount of 180…220 g of mixture for each frame with bees.
Feeding bee colonies at the end of winter (February) or early spring (March), during the scarce period of natural foraging when atmospheric temperatures are low, is carried out with a mixture in the form of a nutritional paste prepared from powdered sugar with honey in a ratio of 7:3 and a bioactive supplement, in the form of a cookie, once, in an amount of 180…220 g for each frame with bees.
As a bioactive supplement, the biomass of the aquatic microalgae Oocystis borgei Snow stored in the National Collection of Microorganisms of the Republic of Moldova, Institute of Microbiology and Biotechnology of the ASM under number CNMN-AV-08 is used.
The technical result of the invention consists in stimulating immunomodulatory functions, strengthening the immunity of the bee organism, increasing the viability of the brood and the resistance of bee colonies to diseases.
The technical result of the invention is the increase in the digestibility and accessibility of the nutrients of the biomass, given that the microalga Oocistis borgei Snow CNMN-AV-08 is covered with a thin protective film, and the biomass has a rich content of biologically active substances, including proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, essential amino acids, especially immunomodulators, micro-macro-elements, antioxidants, which have a catalytic role in the metabolism of nitrogenous substances in worker bees, participate in the synthesis of some enzymes, improve the qualitative composition of royal jelly and stimulate its secretion in nurse bees, with direct and indirect influences (through nutrition) on the viability of the brood and the resistance of bee colonies to diseases.
This bioactive supplement, called "Borgesnow", presents a 2% suspension of yellow-green biomass, the dry matter of which contains 23…25% proteins, presented by the entire set of essential and non-essential amino acids, 30…45% carbohydrates, 8.1…9.2% lipids, vitamins, micro-macro-elements and other important bioactive substances. In dry matter, the supplement contains as a bioactive component 7.5…8.0% immunoactive amino acids and 15.1…16.0% proteinogenic acids, as main elements of the processes of strengthening the body's immunity. Given that the unicellular microalga Oocystis borgei Snow CNMN-AV-08 is covered with a relatively thin protective film, the bioactive substances in the biomass are accessible for digestion in the bee's digestive tract.
To estimate the efficiency of the bee feeding process with the above-mentioned nutritional supplement, in February 2014, comparative testing experiments were carried out on bee colonies formed into three batches (see table), 14 colonies in each batch, which were administered 200 g of paste once to each bee frame, of which: batch I - control, the bees of which were fed with nutritional paste prepared only from a mixture of powdered sugar and honey in a ratio of 7:3, batch II - the closest solution, the bees of which received as food nutritional paste prepared from a mixture of powdered sugar and honey in a ratio of 7:3, enriched with the nutritional supplement "Apispir+Fe+Se" (MD 477 Y 2012.02.29) in an amount of 2 mL of solution with a concentration of 10% (200 mg of substance active) per 1 kg of paste, and, batch III - the proposed invention, the bees of which received as food a nutritional paste prepared from a mixture of powdered sugar and honey in a ratio of 7:3, enriched with the biomass of the aquatic microalgae Oocistis borgei Snow CNMN-AV-08, hereinafter called the bioactive supplement "Borgesnow", in an amount of 10 ml of suspension with a concentration of 2.0% (200 mg dry matter) per 1 kg of paste.
At an interval of 100 days from the date of feeding the bees with the bioactive nutritional supplement, the main morphological characters of the viability of the brood and the resistance to diseases of the bee colonies from the experimental batches were evaluated, according to the Zootechnical Norms on the certification of bee colonies, breeding and certification of beekeeping germinal material, approved by the Decision of the Government of the Republic of Moldova No. 306 of 28.04.2011.
1969, 256 p.). The data obtained in the experiments were statistically processed using the computer software "STATISTICA-6", their certainty being assessed according to variational biometric statistics, according to the methods of Plohinsky N.A. The test results demonstrated that feeding bees with the "Borgesnow" nutritional supplement at the end of winter - during the scarce period of natural harvesting - contributed to a significant increase in the values of disease resistance and brood viability traits in bee colonies.
It was found that the biologically active substances in the "Borgesnow" nutritional supplement have a stimulating impact on immunomodulatory functions, contributing to strengthening the hygienic instinct of bees manifested through resistance to diseases.
As a result, 100 days after the date of feeding with the nutritional supplement, the disease resistance of bee colonies in group III increased significantly, compared to group I (control) and group II (closest solution) by 3.4 and 1.6 absolute points, respectively, or by 3.5 and 1.8% (td = 3.3 and 2.2; P < 0.001 and P < 0.05).
At the same time, due to the biologically active substances in the nutritional supplement, the worker bees in the experimental colonies had a more intense vital activity, indirectly contributing, by feeding the brood with royal jelly, honey and pasteurization, to increasing its viability.
Thus, the viability of the brood of bee colonies in group III increased significantly, compared to group I (control) and group II (closest solution) by 1.5 and, respectively, 0.4 absolute points or by 1.7 and 0.4% (td = 3.0 and 0.8; P < 0.01 and P < 0.1).
Taking into account the fact of increased brood viability in bee colonies fed with the "Borgesnow" nutritional supplement, we can state that the bioactive substances in the supplement cause a stimulating impact on the lactogenic functions of nurse bees and on the chemical composition of royal jelly, thus ensuring a higher quality nutrition for the brood.
Exemplu de realizare a invenţiei Example of embodiment of the invention
The process of feeding Apis mellifera bee colonies is carried out as follows.
To obtain the nutritional paste, mix powdered sugar with honey in a ratio of 7:3 until a consistent-viscous paste is obtained, then add 10 mL of biomass suspension of the microalgae Oocystis borgei Snow CNMN-AV-08 for each kg of paste, continue kneading until perfectly homogeneous mixing. The paste enriched with the bioactive nutritional supplement is packaged in fine food plastic bags, 200 g each, which are shaped into a cake with a thickness of about 2 cm, and are subsequently stored at room temperature of 20…22°C. The nutritional paste in the form of cakes enriched with the bioactive supplement “Borgesnow” is administered to bees in the hive on the tops of the frames, above the nest, once at the end of winter or early spring, during the scarce period of natural collection, in an amount of 200 g for each interval of frames populated with bees. For bees to gain access, the bags of paste are broken with a beekeeping fork in several places on the side that comes into contact with the backs of the frames.
