EXTRACT FROM THE INVENTION.-

This invention relates to an improved packaging, of the kind known as "tray", stackable, and designed so that all of its mounting is exclusively carried out by mechanical means.

The proposed tray consists of a preformed board, preferably of pressed cardboard, which includes: the bottom (1), the longitudinal walls (2-3) and the short sides (-4-5) provided with lateral extensions (14 -15) which deviate orthogonally to the corners of the box. The short sides and their extensions have a notch in its lower edge forming a rung which constitutes a socket which will fit on another similar box, located immediately below, to form stacks, during which each tray will nest on the one placed below and will be supported directly, on the one hand on the two supports (8) formed by the upper edges of the short sides or longitudinal sides (2-3) "also supported on a second seat formed by the upper edge of the walls exterior of each short side and its side cuffs.

The invention also provides, as an option, the possibility of forming said seats on the longitudinal walls of the plate, thus leaving the short sides "at a lower level.

. The tray, thus formed finds its application as packaging in general, and in particular as a tray for packaging and transporting perishable products, the trays can be superimposed by forming stacks.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION.- i

We know boxes without cover, cardboard,! called "trays" which, in order to be stackable, with a certain stability, have in their corners, vertically, triangular prisms of support, formed by the winding of cuffs which extend from the ends of the longitudinal walls or from the ends side walls of the box.

These types of trays, once stacked in stacks, have to bear considerable weight and their walls, particularly those of the longitudinal sides and the bottom, are easily deformed, due to the weight of the packaged goods and the thrust exerted by the trays. on each other.

This invention consists of a new cardboard tray, which effectively solves this important problem, also eliminating the sockets by tabs between two boxes provided in the trays used until now and defective since these tabs which protrude from the upper edge of the short sides are weak and cannot withstand the lateral pressures, therefore folding easily without ensuring the desired nesting. With the current trays, the stacks are kept relatively stable only by the gravity of the trays on each other and are not provided with any effective means to avoid possible lateral displacements of the stacked boxes.

1,>; DISCHARGE OF THE INVENTION. The invention consists of a new stackable tray provided with several support points and socket, from one box to another. This tray has been perfected in its ί drawing, organization and mounting characteristics and is t built from a single preformed board, preferably, but exclusively, in pressed cardboard.

The main objective of the invention is to offer a particularly improved tray which, due to its special design and its organization, can be mounted or formed completely using exclusively mechanical means.

Another objective is to present a tray which has been provided, on two of its opposite sides, whether the short sides or the longitudinal walls, with a second wall which forms a double thickness, the two walls being located at the same height in the central part of said lateral and higher at the ends.

The object of the invention is also to form, on the lower edge of the corners, these notches forming steps, which coincide with the edge formed by the upper edge of each corner of the box, so that by superimposing the boxes these fit together; the superimposed boxes resting on the two seats located at a different level, from the upper edge of the box located below, thus adjusting its corners inside the space formed between the two rungs of the tray located below.

Said special socket is so perfect that one box is practically connected to the other, but within precise limits since each corner of the box is provided with transverse tabs which serve as seats on which rests the bottom of the box located immediately above . One of the characteristics of the improved stackable tray presented here is that at the ends of the lower edge of the longitudinal walls and in the same part of the side walls have been provided notches or special cuts which form, in the external lower part of each corner of the tray socket steps *

Another characteristic of the tray presented provides that the lateral or longitudinal walls be provided with two walls forming a double thickness, one of the interior walls being able to be the same or less high than the exterior wall, and both forming, on the upper edge, a ample seat for the box which will be superimposed, so that each double wall of a tray will be superimposed on the double walls3 coinciding with the other tray located below.

Another additional characteristic of the proposed tray concerns the means provided for dismantling the stacks by separating each tray from that located below and on which it is practically "plugged in" by the corners; this means consists of a large indentation, located in the center of the upper edge of the sides provided with double wall, used to introduce the fingers of the hand to easily separate one tray from the other.

Another characteristic of the invention is that the walls forming a double thickness with two opposite sides of the box, the longitudinal walls or the sides, can be shorter than the side which they reinforce, thus constituting a significant saving in material.

The following description will give a more precise idea of the improved tray presented here; it is illustrated in the attached diagrams which represent, schematically, and exclusively by way of nonlimiting example, the assemblies and details important for the idea of the invention, with a view to practical implementation.

Diagram 1 represents in perspective, a completely assembled plate, where two of its opposite sides (in this case the longitudinal sides -2-) form with their double wall -4-, and on the upper edge a broad longitudinal base -5- j practically continuous, on which the bottom -1- of another tray directly placed on it will rest; this seat -5- follows the upper edge of said long sides -2- and extends into the ends of the short sides or lateral sides -3- and this, inside the tray.

Diagram 2 is similar to diagram 1, but these same measures are applied to the short sides or lateral sides -3- ·

Diagram 3 represents a fragment of two plates according to this invention, which are superimposed, but without completely interlocking. The tray located below shows a conventional section of the extension or external tongue -6- on the double-walled side, which makes it possible to appreciate the internal extension as well as the final part of the adjacent side, located between the internal and external tongues.

Diagram 4 represents a front view of the two superimposed and reciprocally nested trays, which highlights the large notch formed between the superimposed sides used to introduce the hand which will be applied on the bottom of the upper tray to separate it from the tray located below.

Diagram 6 represents a plate whose cuffs -4- with their extensions form the two successive faces of a dihedron, the first lying transversely between the internal wall -4- and the adjacent lateral side and the second overlapping completely on the upper edge of said adjacent lateral side.

Diagram 7 represents the extreme reverse, the lower corner of which is cut, and the adjacent side with a cutout or notch which coincides with said cut reverse. It will be perfectly boxed in said notch to lean against and adhere to the internal plane of the outside backhand -6- which surrounds and covers the corresponding corner of the box.

These achievements should not be considered as exclusive since it is possible to adapt other solutions for the organization of this part of the box; however, the cases presented have been successfully tested and allow the entire box to be assembled with mechanical means.

Diagram 8 represents an additional board with a central flap which, if necessary, can be used as a cover with observation flap to cover and protect the product contained in the tray.

Figure 9 shows a perspective of the corner of an improved box according to the invention, and where. provision is made for the formation, on the upper edge of each corner of a prominence or angular ridge, which constitutes a seat on which the superimposed box will fit, to form stacks.

In these diagrams, the reference -1- indicates the sector which constitutes the bottom of the plate, the -2- designates its longitudinal sides and the -3- the short sides or lateral sides.

As can be seen, in diagram 1, the bottom -1- and the longitudinal sides -2- are the same as those of any open box or tray, the invention in this case is only of fundamental interest the short sides -3-which, with the interior walls -4- form a double thickness. The short sides and the interior walls are joined together and hinge on the upper edge. Thanks to this double wall, a double thickness is obtained which forms on the upper edge a broad seat -5- on which the bottom -1- of the tray will rest which will be superimposed.

According to the assembly shown in diagram 2, each interior wall -4-, folded down on the short sides -3- »presents, at the two ends, two small tabs which form successive walls 7-8» separated by the edge -9- * Said inner walls -4-, folded inwards form a double wall with the corresponding small side -3- and its tongue -7- will be located diagonally between the internal planes of the short side -3- and the adjacent longitudinal side -2-. At the sight of these diagrams, in particular 1, 2 and 3 it can be seen that the short sides -3- are shortened on the upper edge, coinciding with the double fold line of the internal wall -4- on each short side and forming the wide seat -5- already described on which the bottom -1- of the superimposed tray will rest.

So that the upper tray can rest on the seat -5- of the tray located below, the lower edges of its corners have notches -11- extended by the side cuffs -6-, and all so that each short side lateral -3- and its lateral extensions -6- below form an echelon -11- parallel to the upper edge -10-.

In said diagram 2, arrows indicate the parts of each plate situated below which will serve as seats for the coincident lower parts of another homologous plate situated immediately above.

To be able to separate them, the short sides -3- or the long longitudinal sides -2-, according to diagrams 1 and 2, have, in the central part -5- a notch -12- which allows the fingers of the hand to apply them against the lower plane of the bottom of the stacked box and thus remove it.

In diagram 4, one clearly appreciates these notches -12- thanks to the representation of two superimposed plates.

Referring now to diagrams 5, 6 and 7, they represent three versions of the assembly of the plate proposed in this invention. These achievements are intended to reduce the cost of the tray and for this it is planned to reduce, almost by half the width of the small internal walls -4- which form the double thickness of the short sides; these small walls, once folded down will be leaned and glued to the internal face of the short sides -3-, likewise its tabs whose ends -8- will adhere to the internal face of the longitudinal side -2- adjacent against which they s 'apply.

The! diagram 1 represents, in perspective an organized tray, in accordance with the standards proposed by this invention, and whose characteristics have been applied in full to the longitudinal sides -2- of the tray. These have, on the upper edge of the extensions which constitute longitudinal cuffs -4- which are folded! in 1802 against the inside of the plateau. The external faces of the longitudinal sides -2- of the plate rise after the seat -5-, forming a crest -10- which deviates orthogonally which exceeds the end of the respective small side. These crests form, at each corner of the box an angular crest -10- which serves as many seats coincident with the notches provided at the lower edge of the corners of each tray.

Even lie, said angular ridges -10- also serve as buttresses or reinforcement of the corners, between which fit the corners of a superimposed plate, making lateral movements impossible.

All these measures are strictly identical to the previously described and relating to diagrams 2,5, 6 and 7 but these measures are applied to the short sides of the box while the representation of the diagram is relative to the longitudinal sides of the tray, which, unlike the habit, will leave, when building up stacks, ample ventilation spaces between the small lateral sides since these will have a height less than the longitudinal sides.

The seats -5- formed on the upper edge of the double wall on each longitudinal side -2- have a notch-12- which facilitates the handling of the plates to superimpose or separate them.

Diagram 1 makes it possible to concretize the following details: 11 /.

These same crested corners also serve as an em-drink, such as buttresses, between which is fitted the superimposed plate, preventing it from being able to suffer from lateral displacements.

Referring again to diagram 9, we observe an important characteristic which can be precisely applied, both in the case where the seats are formed on the upper edges of the short sides -3- (diagram 2) and in the case where they are formed on the upper edges of the longitudinal sides -2- (diagram 1). This novelty consists in forming on the upper edge -10- of the external face of the double wall, an angular ridge -13- which ends the corners of the box by forming at each corner two seat lines -5-10- of which the crests -13- adapt precisely) -to the coincident sockets -14- of the lower part of the corners of the superimposed plate; these sockets interest the end of the lower edge of the short side -3- (or else of the longitudinal side -2-) and this socket -14- is partially extended by the lower edge of the cuffs of the corners -6-.

Thanks to these measures, a stackable tray is obtained provided with three support lines 3-H-15-. The first two were located at the same height and the third -15- higher and on which a homologous plate will rest when it is superimposed.

It is noted that the new plate described is not limited to the embodiment shown and shown, since at the time of bringing it to practice, one can introduce i / 12 /.
