One solution has been to provide an easily removable cover, adapting without tightening for cooking or reheating, and to provide a second cover for transporting or storing the dish and its contents. This solution has the drawback of requiring the storage or the separate transport of the cover which can be adapted without tightening. The present invention allows this to overcome the above problems and still others of the prior art by providing a dish, a lid; easily removable and a hermetic closure member 5 which can be placed on the dish carrying the cover.

More particularly, the dish comprises a rim comprising a collar which defines there the outer perimeter of the dish. The cover is slightly smaller in diameter than the inside diameter of the collar. The closure member fits on the cover and has a peripheral marginal part which fits properly and securely on the flange. In this way the dish, the lid and the hermetic closure member can be stored or transported in the form of a single assembly.

Consequently, an object of the invention is to provide an improved dish for cooking, storing and transporting food materials.

Another object of the invention is to provide a dish with a lid and an airtight closure member which can be placed on the dish without removing the lid.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will emerge from the following description, given by way of nonlimiting example and with reference to the appended drawings.

15 comprises a descending projection 19 which is of general appearance; circular in plan view from below. The projection i 19 is not continuous but is rather formed of a series j: of projections. These projections serve as the base on which the bowl rests when it is placed on a flat face. The dish 10 has an opening 15 (fi—: Figures 2 and 4) having the approximate appearance of a square i "5 i,;. ' formed by outwardly curved sides 16 and rej3j t linked by rounded corners 17. As can best be seen in Figures 1 and 9, the cover 11 includes a handle 36 provided centrally in a surrounding recess 37, so that the handle can be gripped easily using a pot holder or any other protective device. The perimeter of the recess 37 is defined by an edge 39 which is generally circular in plan view. An outer zone 38 extending outwards 15 and downwards from the edge 39 ends in an outer ring 30.

The outer ring 30 is surrounded by an outer edge of generally circular shape 28. As can be seen in FIGS. 3 and 9, the diameter 20 of the outer edge 28 is slightly less than the inside diameter of the flange 35 of the dish. In this way, when the cover 11 is in place on the dish 10, the flange 35 prevents any lateral movement of the cover. A first circular lip 29, which is con-centric at the outer edge 28, extends downward from the underside of the outer ring 30. When the cover 11 is in place on the dish 10, the lip 29 is arranged approximately above the edge 18 of the opening 15 of the dish. A second lip 31 30 extends downwards to the outer edge 28 of the crown 30. When the cover 11 is in place on the dish 10, the second lip 31 is in contact with the shoulder 24I ·

7 of the dish edge 22 and supports the cover 11 on the dish. A pair of spaced apart legs 32 extend down from the lip 29. The second lip 31 also has a section 31a which delimits the perimeter of the orifice 34. In combination with the legs 32, the section 31a forms a base for hold the outer ring 30 slightly above a flat surface *. on which the cover 11 is deposited.

A portion of the crown 30 of the cover 10 11 has a cutout to form an orifice 34 extending inward from the outer edge 28 of the cover. This orifice 34, as can best be seen in FIG. 6, extends inwards up to a short distance from the lip 29. The orifice is preferably sufficiently large to allow the passage of the handle. a utensil (not shown), such as a spoon or a cooking thermometer.

Referring now to FIGS. 10, 11 and 12, the dish 10 is shown with a hermetic closing member 45 placed on the cover 11. This closing member comprises a central part of generally flat appearance 46 and parts 47 and 47a extending downward and outward respectively. Beads 50 are provided on the central part 46 sui-25 vant a generally circular arrangement. These beads 50 are arranged so that the projections 19 provided on the lower surface of the bowl can nest therein to allow easy stacking of dishes for storage purposes. The contour of the parts 30 extending downwards and outwards 47 and 47a generally follows that of the external zone I V '! ε ι 38 and the crown 30 of the cover 11. The outline of the js r part extending outwards 47a allows easy grip of the dish edge 22, the cover 11 and the gold? closing gane 45 between the thumb and the fingers. This i] 5 facilitates the installation of the closure member 45 and the transport of the assembly. The outwardly extending portion 47a has at its outer edge a peripheral marginal portion extending downward 48. As can be seen in FIG. 12, the peripheral marginal portion 48 is designed so that it 'Fit tightly on the collar 35. The advantages of this arrangement therefore become quite obvious. The dish can be stored in the freezer or refrigerator with the lid in place. The dish, the cover and the closure member can be transported from one place to another in the form of a single set. The close fit of the closure prevents the cover from sliding during transport. The outline of the outwardly extending portion 47a is such that the dish, the lid and the closure member can easily be caught between the thumb and fingers.

Apparatus for storage and transport; i of food or other materials, characterized in that it comprises a dish (10) having an opening 15, an i | ^ I 5 cover (11) which can be detachably placed If) 3 on the dish (10) to close the opening (15), and a hermetic closing member (45) which can be placed simultaneously on the dish and over the aforementioned cover. 2. Apparatus according to claim 1, ca ~! characterized in that the outer perimeter of the dish (10) is formed by a flange (22) and in that the hermetic closure member (45) has a peripheral peripheral part (48) which extends over the rim (22) I 15 by fitting tightly thereon. 13.
