Abstract

A wood compression chamber is defined by longitudinally overlapping side walls (30,37,47,48), which are mutually displaceable in the longitudinal direction. A heated wood sample is compressed axially in the direction of the grain or fibres by a hydraulic cylinder (18). The side wall parts which prevent deflection may be pressed into frictional engagement with the sample by inflatable bags or hose. The side wall parts can be displaced to provide frictional compressive forces. The side walls may engage with longitudinal sections of the sample or with the full length of the sample. @(21pp Dwg.No.1/2)@
