150.000N/㎟ 보다 작은 탄성계수를 가진 재료로, 이루어져 있고, 중공축 확대함으로써 그 위에 구동 부재가 고정되는 중공축에 있어서, 하기식을 특징으로 하는 중공축 ;
그리고
상기식에서, FA는 항복점, EA는 구도부재의 재료의 탄성계수, FW및 EW는 축의 재료의 탄성계수, rwa는 축의 외부반경, rwi는 축의 내부반경, rAi는 구동부재의 내부반경을 나타내며, 이때 탄성계수의 단위는 N/㎟이고, 반경의 단위는 mm임.
