Techniques for improving the mechanical strength of rubber products by inserting steel wires into rubber have been applied to tires and belts. Steel wire is usually coated with brass to improve adhesion with rubber and to prevent rust formation because the adhesion to rubber is not great. Various additives are used to improve the initial adhesion between the steel wire and the rubber and to suppress the deterioration of adhesion. Such additives include resins such as cobalt or cobalt salts and resorcinol. Korean Patent Publication No. 1993-7358 (1993. 08. 09.) discloses a method of improving adhesion to brass-coated iron wire by mixing squalene oxide with a compounding rubber.
