Abstract

Description
본 발명은 다대역 무선 주파수 에너지 활용에 관한 것으로, 특히 무선 주파수 에너지 활용장치용 정류회로, 및 이러한 정류회로들을 활용하는 무선 주파수 에너지 활용 시스템들에 관한 것이다.
정류(整流) 안테나(rectenna, rectifying antenna)는 무선파 에너지를 직류전류로 변환하는데 사용되는 특정 형태의 안테나이다. 정류 안테나는 전력을 무선파들에 의해 전송하는 무선전력 전송 시스템들에 사용된다. 전형적인 정류 안테나소자는 쌍극 소자들에 걸쳐 연결된 다이오우드를 갖는 쌍극 안테나로 구성된다. 상기 다이오우드는 직류 전류(DC) 전력을 발생하기 위해 상기 무선파들에 의해 상기 안테나에 유기된 교류 전류(AC)를 정류하며, 그 다음으로, 이것은 상기 다이오우드에 연결된 부하에 전력을 공급하기 위해 사용된다. 쇼트키 다이오우드들(Schottky diodes)은 가장 낮은 전압 강하 및 가장 높은 속도를 가지므로 전도 및 스위칭에 기인하는 가장 낮은 전력 손실을 가지기 때문에 이 쇼트키 다이오우드들이 대개 사용된다. 큰 정류 안테나는 다수의 그러한 쌍극 소자들의 배열로 구성된다.

무선 주파수 에너지를 직류 전력으로 변환할 수 있는 종래의 정류 안테나들은 주위의 무선 주파수 에너지를 활용할 수 없다. 종래의 정류회로들은 안테나의 임피던스(전형적으로 표준 50 또는 75 오옴(Ohm) 안테나)를 상기 정류회로의 입력 임피던스(전형적으로 저항 이외에도 강력한 임피던스/리액턴스를 갖는)로 정합하기 위한 개별적인 무선 주파수 정합단(段)을 포함한다.
따라서, 현존하는 무선 주파수 정류 안테나들은 높은 무선 주파수 전력 밀도 레벨들(전형적으로 1 W/m2의 위의)의 존재하에서만 사용 가능한 직류 전압들을 발생할 수 있으므로, 전용 고-전력 전송기들이 충분히 높은 에너지들에서 무선 주파수 에너지를 발생하는 무선전력 전송 시스템들에 전형적으로 사용된다. 주위의 무선 주파수 에너지는 전형적으로 아주 낮으므로(mW로부터 μW까지), 에너지 활용을 위한 종래의 무선 주파수 정류 안테나들의 사용은 저전력 레벨 주변 전력원용으로는 불충분하다고 증명되었다. 또한, 종래의 정류 안테나들은 단일 대역(즉, 협대역 무선 주파수 신호들을 활용)이며 부피가 크므로, 크기를 조정 가능하지 않다.
필요한 것은 주위의 무선 주파수 에너지를 활용할 수 있는 무선 주파수 에너지 활용장치(정류 안테나)이다. 특히, 필요한 것은 무선 주파수 정류 안테나가 낮은 에너지 레벨들(즉, 수십 mW 및 그 미만)을 갖는 다대역 무선 주파수 신호 에너지를 높은 변환 효율로서 활용 가능하게 하는 정류회로이다.
본 발명은 무선 주파수들에서 공진하도록 구성된 안테나 구조, 및 상기 활용된 무선 주파수 신호를 사용 가능한 전압 레벨들로 상승시키기 위해 다른 순방향 전압치 및 역방향 피크 전압치들을 갖는 2개의 다이오우드들을 활용함으로써 낮은 에너지 레벨들(즉, 수십 mW 및 그 미만)을 갖는 다대역 무선 주파수 신호들의 활용을 용이하게 하는 정류회로를 포함하는 무선 주파수(RF) 에너지 활용장치(정류 안테나)에 관한 것이다. 제1 다이오우드는 제1 안테나 극점에 결합되고 매우 낮은 순방향 전압(예컨대, 120 mV 정도), 1.0 V 정도의 역방향 피크전압, 및 5k 오옴(Ohms)의 역방향 전류저항을 갖는 (제1) 제로 바이어스 쇼트키 다이오우드(Zero Bias Schottky diode)를 사용하여 구현된다. 제2 다이오우드는 커패시터에 의해 상기 제2 안테나 극점에 결합되고, 150 mV 정도의 순방향 전압(즉, 상기 제1 제로 바이어스 쇼트키 다이오우드의 순방향 전압보다 같거나 더 높은), 및 적어도 2.0 V 의 역방향 피크전압(즉, 상기 제1 제로 바이어스 쇼트키 다이오우드의 역방향 피크전압보다 더 높은), 및 적어도 10k 오옴(Ohms)의 역방향 전류저항(즉, 상기 제1 제로 바이어스 쇼트키 다이오우드(D1)의 역방향 전류저항보다 더 높은)을 갖는 (제2) 제로 바이어스 쇼트키 다이오우드를 사용하여 구현된다. 상기 제1 안테나 극점 상에서 발생된 (제1) 무선 주파수 신호로부터의 양(陽)의 전압 펄스들은 상기 제1 다이오우드에 의해 제1 내부 노드로 통과되며, 이것들은 상기 제2 안테나 극점 상에서 발생된 제2 무선 주파수 신호와 합해짐으로써(즉, 상기 제1 커패시터를 통해 통과된 후), 상기 제1 및 제2 무선 주파수 신호들 중 어느 하나보다 실질적으로 더 높은 전압 레벨을 갖는 제1 중간전압을 발생시킨다. 상기 제1 중간전압으로부터의 양의 전압 펄스들은 그 다음으로 상기 제2 다이오우드에 의해 제2 내부 노드로 통과되며, 이로부터 상기 펄스들은 사용 가능한 직류(DC) 출력전압으로 수집/변환될 수 있다(예컨대, 적합한 출력 제어회로에 의해). 상기 아주 낮은 순방향 전압 제1 다이오우드를 위에 설명된 배열로 구현함으로써, 본 발명은 주변의 아주 낮은 에너지 무선 주파수 신호들(즉, -40dB 만큼 낮은)을 상당히 더 높은 전압 레벨들을 갖는 펄스들로 용이하게 변환시킨다. 그 다음으로, 이들 펄스들을 더 높은 순방향/역방향 전압 제2 다이오우드를 통해 통과시킴으로써, 본 발명은 사용 가능한 전압 레벨들을 갖는 직류 출력전압들을 용이하게 발생시킨다.

한 특정 실시예에서, 다이오우드들(D1 및 D2)은 위에 설명된 바람직한 다이오우드 특성들을 효율적이면서도 신뢰성 있게 발생시키기 위해 개별적인(예컨대, 표면 장착 가능한 패키지들에 배치된) 제로 바이어스 전압 쇼트키 다이오우드들을 사용하여 구현된다. 예를 들면, 예시적인 실제의 실시예에서, 다이오우드(D1)는 미국, MA, 워번의 스카이웍스 솔루션즈 사(社)(Skyworks Solutions, Inc. of Woburn, MA, USA)에 의해 제조된 SMS7630 쇼트키 다이오우드를 사용하여 구현되며, 다이오우드(D2)는 미국, CA, 산타클라라의 에질런트 테크놀로지 사(社)(Agilent Technolo gies of Santa Clara, CA, USA)에 의해 제조된 HSMS2850 표면 장착 제로 바이어스 쇼트키 검출기 다이오우드를 사용하여 구현된다. 가능한 다른 실시예들에서, 다이오우드들(D1 및 D2)은 인쇄된 회로소자 기술들을 사용하여 발생될 수도 있다. 즉, 현재의 인쇄회로 기술들을 사용하여 제조된 다이오우드들은 15MHz 아래의 주파수들로 제한되므로, 현재의 인쇄회로 기술들은 바람직한 특성들을 갖는 다이오우드들을 제조하는데 활용되지 않을 수도 있다. 그러나, 인쇄전자 제조기술들에서의 미래의 개선들은 위에 설명된 상기 표면-장착된 제로 바이어스 전압 다이오우드들을 대체하는데 적합한 특성들을 갖는 인쇄된 다이오우드들의 제조를 용이하게 할 수도 있음이 기대된다. 또한, 다른 제조기술들이 적합한 다이오우드 구조들의 비용-효율적인 제조를 용이하게 하도록 개발될 수도 있음이 가능하다.
아래에 자세히 설명된 바와 같이, 몇개의 실시예들에서, 정류회로(130)는 포착된 무선 주파수 신호들(V121 및 V122)의 특성들을 향상시키기 위한 인덕터들을 포함할 수도 있다. 도 1은 점선 기호들을 사용하여 선택적인 인덕터들(L1 및 L2)을 표시하며, 인덕터((L1)는 안테나 극점(121) 및 다이오우드(D1) 사이에 연결되며, 인덕터((L2)는 안테나 극점(122) 및 커패시터(C1) 사이에 연결된다. 선택적인 인덕터들(L1 및 L2)은 개별적인(예컨대, 표면-장착된) 장치들을 사용하여 구현되거나, 알려진 인쇄전자 기술들을 사용하여 제조된다. 예시적인 실시예에서, 이들 인덕터들은 주변 무선 주파수 신호들의 효율적인 포착을 용이하게 하기 위해 50 nH(이것은 목표 무선 주파수 및 다이오우드 특성들에 의존하여 변할 수도 있음)의 치수의 인덕턴스들을 가진다.
