Description

미래의 IO 명령들이 Vdisk1로 보내지면, 제2 fdisk 데이터는 먼저 “초기화” 되어야 하고 그 다음 상기 IO 명령은 정상적으로 Fdisk12로 보내진다. Fdisk의 초기화는 소스 디스크로부터 캐스캐이드 내의 첫번 종속 map의 상기 타겟 디스크로 기존의 데이터를 복사하는 것을 수반한다.

제 1및 제2 fdisk가 부존재 상태인 경우, 이는 플래시카피 캐스캐이드는 특정 Vdisk에서 관심이 없다는 것을 의미하며 따라서 모든 IO명령들은 지나가버릴 것이다(passthrough). 다음으로 제1 fdisk가 활성화이고, 제2 fdisk가 부존재 상태인 경우, Vdisk에 대한 상기 IO 명령들은 프로세싱을 위해 제1 fdisk에 전송됨을 의미한다. 여기에는 사전(pre)-IO 초기화는 수행되지 않는다.
다음으로 제1 및 제2 fdisk가 모두 활성화인 경우, 이는 이Vdisk에 대한 IO 명령들이 처리를 위해 제1 fdisk에 전송됨을 의미한다. 상기 IO명령들이 처리되기 전에, 제2 fdisk가 먼저 초기화되어야 한다. 마지막으로, 제1 fdisk가 부존재이고 제2 fdisk가 활성화 상태인 경우, 상기 IO명령들을 처리하기 전, 상기 제2 fdisk가 먼저 초기화되어야 한다. 일단 제2 fdisk가 초기화 되면 상기 IO명령들은 지나간다(passthrough).
위의 설명은 “제1 fdisk가 부존재이고, 제2 fdisk가 활성화”인 상태를 포함하도록 설명되었다. 제1 fdisk 없이 Vdisk가 실제로 존재할 수 있을 지는 어떻게 구현하느냐에 달려있다. 예를 들어, 어떤 구현은 사용자가 맵을 조기에 종료하도록 할 수 있다. 이렇게 하면, 제1 fdisk가 될 수 있는, 타겟 fdisk를 파괴할 수 있다. 이런 점에서, 상기 구현은 상기 제2 fdisk를 제1 fdisk로 승격시킬 수도 있고 (promote), 또는 상기 Vdisk를 제1 fdisk 없이 내버려둘 수도 있다. 어떤 방법이 가장 바람직한 것인지는 구현자들(implementers)이 결정할 것이지만, 둘 모두 가능할 것이다.
상기 데이터구조를 생성하기 위한 플래시카피 프로세스를 처리하는 상기 방법은 도5에서 요약된다. 상기 방법은, 먼저 소스 디스크에 대한 플래시카피 명령을 수신하는 단계(S1)를 포함한다. 이것은 적합한 사용자 인터페이스를 통하여 관리자로부터 수신된다. 상기 방법의 나머지 단계는, 다양한 디스크들을 포함하는 기업 스토리지 시스템의 일부분인 또는 부속된 처리 기능에 의해 수행된다.

다음 단계는 소스 디스크를 위한 제1 fdisk가 존재하는지 체크하는 단계를 수행한다. 만약 존재하지 않는다면, 상기 방법은 단계(S4)로 진행하며, 이 단계는 소스 디스크에 대한 fdisk가 아직 존재하지 않음에 따라 소스 디스크에 대한 제1 fdisk를 생성하는 단계를 포함한다. 상기 소스 디스크에 대한 fdisk가 이미 존재한다면, 상기 소스디스크에 관하여는 아무런 조치를 취할 필요가 없이, 상기 방법은 다음 체크단계로 이동한다.
Fdisk가 필요하여, 소스 디스크에 대해 fdisk가 일단 생성되었다면, 다음 단계는 타겟 디스크에 대하여 제1 fdisk가 존재하는지 체크하는 것이다. 만약 존재하지 않는다면, 단계(S5)로 진행하며, 이 단계에서는, 타겟 디스크에 대한 fdisk가 아직 존재 하지 않음으로, 상기 타겟 디스크에 대한 제1 fdisk를 생성한다. 타겟 디스크에 대한 fdisk가 이미 존재하는 경우, 상기 방법은 단계(S6)로 진행하고, 이 단계는 타겟 디스크에 대한 기존의 제1 fdisk를 제2 fdisk로 전환하는 단계를 포함한다. 상기 방법의 마지막 단계는 단계(S7)로써 상기 타겟디스크에 대한 새로운 제1 fdisk를 생성하는 단계이다.
이러한 방법으로, fdisk들 및 맵들의 데이터구조는 플래시카피가 어떠한 소스 디스크로 만들어 질 때마다 생성된다. 상기 방법 중 단계(S3)는 생성된 맵을 생성된 제1 fdisk각각에 링크시키는 단계를 포함하는 것이 바람직하다. 이 방법에서 만들어지는 데이터구조는 디스크들을 통한 플래시카피들의 캐스케이딩을 지원할 수 있고, 그럼에도 불구하고,어떤 복잡한 관리자 개입의 필요성을 요구하지 않고, 캐스케이드 내 다른 위치들(places)에서 데이터를 획득하는데 충분한 유연성을 제공하는 것을 보장한다.
상기 스킴(scheme)은 또한 제2 fdisk들의 개수에 관계없다. 디스크와 관련된 fdisk들의 개수는 맵들이 동시에 시작될 수 있는 규칙들을 결정한다. 제2 fdisk들로 재 전송되는 IO명령들의 초기화가 제 1 IO 명령들이 처리되기 전에 완료되어야 하는 것에 기인한 추가의 워크로드 때문에 유연성과 성능 사이에 균형이 설정될 필요가 있다.
전술한 것처럼, 일단 특정 디스크에 대한 IO 명령이 수신된 후, 상기 IO명령의 처리는 상기 특정 디스크에 대한 제1 및 제2 fdisk들의 존재와 관련된 미리 정의된 규칙들 세트에 따라 수행된다. 상기 미리 정의된 규칙들 세트는 상기 IO 명령을 처리하기에 앞서 제2 fdisk를 초기화 하는 것을 정의하는 것이 바람직하며, 상기 초기화는 상기 특정 디스크로부터 상기 제2 disk에 링크된 맵에서 정의된 타겟 디스크로의 데이터를 복사하는 것을 포함한다.
Claims (9)
- 카피 프로세스(a copy process)를 처리하는 방법에 있어서:
디스크들의 캐스케이드의 일부인 소스 디스크로부터 타겟 디스크로의 시점복사(a point in time copy)를 위해 상기 소스 디스크로부터 상기 타겟 디스크로의 상기 시점복사를 명시하는 맵(map)을 생성하는 단계 - 상기 캐스케이드는 상기 디스크들 간의 일련의(a series of) 시점복사를 나타냄 -;
상기 소스 디스크에 대한 제1 fdisk(primary fdisk)가 존재하지 않는다는 결정에 응답하여, 상기 소스 디스크에 대한 제1 fdisk를 생성하는 단계 - 상기 소스 디스크에 대한 제1 fdisk는 상기 캐스케이드 내에서 업스트림 및 다운스트림으로 상기 소스 디스크를 맵들과 링크(link)하는 오브젝트를 포함함 -;
상기 타겟 디스크에 대한 제1 fdisk가 존재하지 않는다는 결정에 응답하여, 상기 타겟 디스크에 대한 제1 fdisk를 생성하는 단계 - 상기 타겟 디스크에 대한 제1 fdisk는 상기 캐스케이드 내에서 업스트림 및 다운스트림으로 상기 타겟 디스크를 맵들과 링크하는 오브젝트를 포함함 -; 및
상기 타겟 디스크에 대한 제1 fdisk가 존재하다는 결정에 응답하여, 상기 타겟 디스크에 대한 기존의 제1 fdisk는 제2 fdisk(secondary fdisk)로 전환하고, 상기 타겟 디스크에 대하여 새로운 제1 fdisk를 생성하는 단계;를 포함하는
방법. - 제1항에 있어서,
생성된 상기 맵을 상기 캐스케이드에서 상기 소스 디스크에 대한 제1 fdisk 및 타겟 디스크에 대한 제1 fdisk로 링크하는 단계;를 더 포함하는

상기 소스 디스크에 대한 IO 커맨드를 수신하는 단계; 및
상기 소스 디스크에 대한 제1 및 제2 fdisk의 존재와 관련된 미리 정의된 규칙들의 세트(set)에 따라 상기 IO 커맨드를 처리하는 단계;를 더 포함하는
