Abstract

1. 청구범위에 기재된 발명이 속한 기술분야
화상형성장치인 프린터에 관한 것으로, 특히 외부장치로부터 수신되는 이미지화일을 직접 인쇄할 수 있는 방법에 관한 것이다.
2. 발명이 해결하려고 하는 기술적 과제
외부장치로부터 수신되는 이미지화일을 응용프로그램과 드라이버 선택에 의한 데이타 변환없이 직접 인쇄할 수 있는 방법을 제공함에 있다.
3. 발명의 해결방법의 요지
호스트 컴퓨터와 연결된 프린터의 이미지화일 직접 인쇄방법에 있어서, 상기 호스트 컴퓨터로부터 데이타 입력이 있는 경우 현재 프린터의 커맨드 모드가 직접 이미지화일 인쇄(DIFPS)모드인가를 검사하는 단계와, 상기 검사결과 현재 프린터의 커맨드 모드가 직접 이미지화일 인쇄모드일 경우 이미지화일 형식모드에 따라 입력데이타를 출력가능 형식으로 변환하여 인쇄하는 단계로 이루어짐을 특징으로 한다.

잉크젯 프린터, 도트 매트릭스 프린터, 레이저 빔 프린터의 이미지화일 직접 인쇄에 사용할 수 있다.

Description

프린터의 이미지 화일 직접 인쇄방법
제1도는 일반적인 레이저 빔 프린터의 개략적인 블럭구성도.
제2도는 본 발명에 따른 비디오 제어부(24)의 제어흐름도.
본 발명은 화상형성장치인 프린터에 관한 것으로, 특히 외부장치로부터 수신되는 이미지화일을 직접 인쇄할 수 있는 방법에 관한 것이다.
현재 컴퓨터 주변기기인 프린터는 컴퓨터로부터 입력되는 데이타를 약속된 형식에 따라 번역하여 이를 프린터 자신이 인쇄가능한 이미지로 변환한 다음 출력한다. 이때 컴퓨터로부터 입력되는 데이타들은 약속된 일정 형식을 가지게 되므로 프린터가 이를 정확하게 번역하기 위해서는 어떤 형식의 데이타 커맨드(Data Command)를 사용하였는지를 알아야 한다. 이는 사용자가 직접 컴퓨터에서 사용하는 드라이버(Driver)종류에 따라 프린터의 커맨드 모드를 설정해 주어야 한다는 것이다. 대표적인 데이타 커맨드 형식으로는 PCL, 포스트스크립(Postscript) 호스트 베이스 드라이버(Host-Based Driver) 커맨드등이 있다. 따라서 프린터는 특정 커맨드 형식에 맞추어 소정의 데이타를 인쇄하기 위한 소프트웨어를 지니고 있어야 한다.
또한 사용자는 자신의 프린터기능을 이해하고 있어야 하며, 동시에 컴퓨터에는 다음과 같은 최소한의 툴(Tool)이 구비되어 있어야 한다. 첫째 인쇄하고자 하는 이미지를 편집할 수 있는 응용 프로그램(Application Program)이 있어야 하며, 둘째 편집된 최종 이미지를 프린터에서 사용가능한 커맨드로 변환하여 출력할 수 있도록 하기 위한 프린터 드라이버가 있어야 한다. 그러나 대부분의 사용자가 직접 편집한 이미지화일을 제외하고는 특정 약속된 이미지로 저장된 화일들이 있는데 이런 화일들을 인쇄하기 위해서는 상기의 응용 프로그램과 드라이버가 필요하게 된다. 즉 자신이 편집하지 않은 특정 형식의 화일들을 인쇄하는데 이중의 노력을 들여야 하는 문제가 발생한다. 상기 특정 형식의 화일로는 이미지를 그대로 일정 형식에 맞추어 저장한 BMP(Bit Map Image File), TIP 화일들이 있다.
이런 화일들은 주로 외부에서 빌려오거나 전달받아 단지 인쇄만 하면 되는 경우가 대부분인데, 현재로서는 이를 읽을 수 있는 응용프로그램을 컴퓨터에서 실행시켜 프린터와 호환이 되는 드라이버를 설정하여 인쇄해야 하는 불편함이 있다.
따라서 본 발명의 목적은 외부장치로부터 수신되는 이미지화일을 응용프로그램과 드라이버 선택에 의한 데이타 변환없이 직접 인쇄할 수 있는 방법을 제공함에 있다.
이하 본 발명의 바람직한 일실시예를 첨부한 도면을 참조하여 상세히 설명한다. 한편 하기 설명 및 첨부도면에 기재된 구체적인 처리 흐름과 같은 많은 특정 상세들은 본 발명의 보다 전반적인 이해를 제공하기 위해 나타나 있으며, 이들 특정 상세들 없이 본 발명이 실시될 수 있다는 것은 이 기술분야에서 통상의 지식을 가진자에게 자명할 것이다. 그리고 본 발명의 요지를 불필요하게 흐릴 수 있는 공지 기능 및 구성에 대한 상세한 설명은 생략하기로 한다
제1도는 외부장치(호스트컴퓨터)로부터 데이타를 입력받아 이에따른 화상을 용지상에 출력하는 일반적인 레이저 빔 프린터(10)의 블럭구성도를 나타낸 것이다.
제1도를 참조하면, 레이저 빔 프린터(10)는 크게 비디오 컨트롤러(20)와 엔진 컨트롤러(30) 및 OPE(28)로 구성된다. 비디오 컨트롤러(20)는 다시 컴퓨터 인터페이스(22)와 비디오 제어부(24)와 엔진 인터페이스(26)로 구성된다. 상기 컴퓨터 인터페이스(22)는 호스트 컴퓨터와 비디오 제어부(24)사이에 연결되어 입출력신호를 인터페이싱한다. 비디오 제어부(24)는 본 발명의 일실시예에 따른 제어 프로그램을 구비한 롬(ROM)과, OPE(Operating Panel Equipment)(28) 및 호그트 컴퓨터로부터 입력되는 각종 데이타를 임시저장하는 램(RAM)을 포함하고 상기 컴퓨터 인터페이스(22)로부터 수신되는 이미지화일을 프린터 엔진이 처리할 수 있는 이미지데이타로 변환하여 엔진 컨트롤러(30)로 전송한다. 엔진 인터페이스(26)는 상기 비디오 제어부(24)의 제어하에 엔진 컨트롤러(30)와 입출력신호를 인터페이싱한다.
한편 OPE(28)는 비디오 제어부(24)에 의해 제어되며 각종 명령을 입력하기 위한 다수의 키들과 디스플레이장치를 구비한다. 엔진 컨트롤러(30)는 크게 기구부와 회로부로 구성되며 비디오 제어부(24)로부터 전송되는 이미지 데이타에 따른 화상을 인쇄하여 출력한다.
제2도는 외부장치로부터 수신되는 이미지 화일을 직접 인쇄하기 위한 비디오 제어부(24)의 제어흐름도를 나타낸 것으로, 이하 제1도 및 제2도를 참조하여 본 발명의 동작예를 설명하기로 한다.
우선 레이저 빔 프린터(10)와 연결된 호스트컴퓨터로부터 소정의 데이타가 프린터로 전송되는 경우, 비디오 제어부(24)는 40단계에서 데이타 입력이 있는가를 검사한다. 검사결과 데이타 입력이 있으면, 비디오 제어부(24)는 42단계로 진행하여 모드설정 커맨드 입력이 있는가를 검사한다. 이때 모드설정 커맨드 입력의 검사방법으로는 사용자가 OPE(28)를 통해 PCL, 포스트스크립 등과 같은 특정 커맨드 모드 선택외에 DIFPS(Direct Image File Printing System)모드를 설정하기 위한 키데이타의 수신이 있는가를 검사함으로서 이루어질 수 있다. 만약 42단계의 검사결과 모드설정 커맨드 입력이 없다면, 비디오 제어부(24)는 44단계로 진행하여 현재 레이저 빔 프린터의 커맨드 모드가 DIFPS모드인가를 검사한다. 44단계의 검사결과 현재 레이저 빔 프린터의 커맨드 모드가 DIFPS모드이면, 비디오 제어부(24)는 46단계로 진행하여 이미지화일 형식모드에 따라 입력되는 데이타를 출력 가능형식으로 변환한다. 예를들면, 현재 프린터의 이미지화일 형식모드가 BMP 화일형식이라면 비디오 제어부(24)는 BMP화일 형식에 따라 입력데이타를 비트맵 이미지로 변환한후 48단계로 진행한다. 한편 42단계의 검사결과 OPE(28)로부터 모드설정 커맨드 입력이 있다면, 비디오 제어부(24)는 50단계로 진행하여 입력된 해당 커맨드모드 및 이미지화일을 설정한 후 46단계로 진행한다. 만약 입력된 해당 커맨드 모드가 DIFPS모드라면 비디오 제어부(24)는 그에 따라 이미지 화일 형식도 설정한다. 한편 46단계에서 비디오 제어부(24)는 40단계에서 입력된 데이타를 이미지화일 형식 모드에 따라 출력가능 형식으로 변환시킨 후 48단계로 진행한다. 반면 44단계의 검사결과 현재 커맨드모드가 DIFPS모드가 아니라면, 비디오 제어부(24)는 52단계로 진행하여 현재 설정되어 있는 커맨드모드(PCL, Postscript)에 따라 데이타를 출력가능한 형식으로 변환시킨후 48단계로 진행한다. 이후 48단계에서 비디오 제어부(24)는 엔진 컨트롤러(30)를 제어하여 데이타 변환된 입력데이타를 인쇄한다.
이와 같이 본 발명은 DIFPS모드를 프린터의 소프트웨어에 추가 적용함으로서 호스트 컴퓨터의 응용프로그램 및 드라이버 지원없이 프린터로 입력되는 이미지화일을 직접 인쇄할 수 있다.
상술한 바와 같이 본 발명은 이미지화일을 인쇄함에 있어 별도의 응용프로그램 및 드라이버의 실행없이 도스(DOS)커맨드나 일반 OS커맨드의 인쇄명령만으로 이미지화일을 인쇄함으로서 사용자의 편의를 증진시킬 수 있는 잇점이 있다.
한편 본 발명의 실시예에서는 래이저 빔 프린터를 일예로 설명하였드나 별다른 변형없이 호스트 컴퓨터와 같은 외부장치로부터 이미지화일을 수신하는 프린터에 적용할 수도 있다.

Claims (2)

  1. 호스트 컴퓨터와 연결된 프린터의 이미지화일 직접 인쇄방법에 있어서, 상기 호스트 컴퓨터로부터 데이타 입력이 있는 경우 현재 프린터의 커맨드 모드가 직접 이미지화일 인쇄(DIFPS)모드인가를 검사하는 단계와, 상기 검사결과 현재 프린터의 커맨드 모드가 직접 이미지화일 인쇄모드일 경우 이미지화일 형식모드에 따라 입력데이타를 출력가능 형식으로 변환하여 인쇄하는 단계로 이루어짐을 특징으로 하는 프린터의 이미지 화일 직접 인쇄방법.
  2. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 직접 이미지화일 인쇄모드는 사용자에 의해 설정 및 해제됨을 특징으로 하는 프린터의 이미지 화일 직접 인쇄방법.
