Abstract

PURPOSE:To output all inputted signals and print images free of broken parts or voids, by setting a coating width of a thermal transfer ink layer, which constitutes an electrothermal transfer medium for use on an electrothermal transfer printer, to be greater than a printing width. CONSTITUTION:An electrothermal transfer medium 11 is produced in which the coating width (b) of a thermal transfer ink layer 14 is greater than a printing width (a). The transfer medium 11 (21) comprises at least an electrothermal resistor layer 22, a base layer 23 and the thermal transfer ink layer 24. The electrothermal resistor layer 22 comprises a thermoplastic organic substance and/or a thermosetting organic substance, a conductive substance and some additives or the like. The base layer 23 is a film of a plastic such as polyethylene and polypropylene. The ink layer 24 comprises a thermoplastic organic substance, a coloring material such as a pigment and a dye, and some additives or the like.
