Abstract
PURPOSE:To prepare the title polymer which is very excellent in conductivity and useful as highly conductive materials, by treating a specified polythienylenevinylene polymer precursor for the elimination of its alkoxy group. CONSTITUTION:A 2,5-thienylenedimethylene bissulfonium salt monomer of formula I (where R2-3 are 1-10C hydrocarbon groups; A<-> is a halogen, OH, COOH, BF4 or a counter ion such as perchlorate ion) is dissolved in a solvent such as water and/or an alcohol, and a strongly basic alkali soln. of a pH of at least 11 is added thereto. The soln. is submitted to a condensation polymn. reaction at a low temp. of 25 deg.C or lower for 1min-50hr, after which the obtd. sulfonium salt polymer has its side chain react with the alcohol contained in the solvent to that said side chain is substd. with an alkoxy group to give a polythienylenevinylene polymer precursor consisting of recurring units of formula II (where R1 is R2). This precursor is then treated for the elimination of its alkoxy group in an inert gas atmosphere at 0-400 deg.C for 1-10hr.
