Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the title precursor which can be converted into a conjugated poly-2,5-thienylenevinylene polymer which provides a high conductivity, by submitting a 2,5-thienylenedimethylene bissulfonium salt monomer to a condensation polymn. and then substituting the contained sulfonium salt with an alkoxy group. CONSTITUTION:A 2,5-thienylenedimethylene bissulfonium salt monomer of formula I (where R2-3 are 1-10C hydrocarbon groups; A<-> is a halogen, OH, COOH, BF4 or a counter ion such as perchlorate ion) is dissolved in a solvent such as water and/or an alcohol, and a strongly basic alkali soln. of a pH of at least 11 is added thereto. The soln. is submitted to a condensation polymn. reaction at a low temp. of 25 deg.C or flower for 1min-50hr, after which the obtd. sulfonium salt polymer has its side chain sulfonium salt react with the alcohol contained in the solvent to that said side chain is substd. with an alkoxy group (OR1 group), to give a conjugated poly-2,5-thienylenevinylene polymer precursor of formula II (where R1 is R2; n is at least 2) having an alkoxy group in the side chain.
