Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect the abnormal heating of a wheel easily and surely by applying a temperature indicating paint on the surface of a railway wheel for forming a paint film and detecting the abnormal heating of the wheel based on the discoloration and a thermally inferior status of the paint film caused by the abnormal heating of the wheel. CONSTITUTION:A temperature indicating paint is applied on respective surfaces of the rim part, plate part and boss part and the like on a railway wheel for forming a paint film. When the paint film is heated by the abnormal heating of a wheel, the abnormal heating of the wheel is detected step by step based on the discoloration and inferior status of the paint film. For example, a tensile remaining stress caused by the abnormal heating of the wheel takes place in the range of 200-300 deg.C. Then, the paint film is discolored step by step to brown, red brown and dark brown in this temperature zone and on the dark brown, the swelling and peeling off of the paint film are generated and it displays clear deterioration caused by heating. Therefore, the corrosion of the wheel can be prevented and the abnormal heating is also detected by the paint film.
