Abstract
PURPOSE:To enhance the safety of a brake in a vehicle, when it is loaded, further decreased in its load to a foot brake by providing an electronic control unit, switch means and a control circuit. CONSTITUTION:Placing an exhaust brake switch 23 in an on-condition, when an accelerator pedal performs no step-in action, a controller 21 actuates an exhaust brake 10 through a solenoid 14. Then the controller 21 turns on a lockup clutch 19 through a lockup clutch valve 20, placing a torque converter 18 in a directly coupled condition. In this condition, when a vehicle applies an emergency brake by using a foot brake or the like, decreasing output voltage from a comparator to 0 potential when an engine speed decreases to a predetermined value or less, the voltage obtains a positive potential by a polarity inverter 4. This positive potential is input to a relay driving circuit 7, opening a contact 6. In this way, the clutch 19 is released from its engagement and turned off. Accordingly, brake force is prevented from rapidly decreasing because the exhaust brake 10 operates even after the clutch 19 is released.
