Abstract

PURPOSE:To attempt an improvement in exhaust emission characteristics by comparing the output of an O2 sensor which allows electric motive force to be shifted on the rich side as NOx is increased by the action of NOx reducing catalizer, with a reference value varied to the lean side in the operating condition of an increase in NOx. CONSTITUTION:A control unit 16 including an air flow meter 13, a water temperature sensor 17 and a NOx reducing layer 5, to which detected values from an O2 sensor 19 allowing electric motive force to be shifted on the rich sides as NOx concentration in exhaust gas is high, and from a crank angle sensor 21 and the like are inputted so as to perform an operational control of the opening time for a fuel injection valve 15. The control unit 16 sets up a reference value corresponding to an air-fuel ratio on the lean side at the operation condition of high combustion temperature based on both revolutions and the basic quantity of fuel injection, following which, the feedback control of the air-fuel ratio is performed based on the deviation between the detected value from the O2 sensor 19 and the set reference value.
