Abstract
PURPOSE:To efficiently manufacture medium- or low-carbon ferromanganese at a low cost by blowing an oxidizing gas against the bath surface of molten high-carbon ferromanganese under agitation to carry out decarburization and blowing an oxidizing gas containing carbon dioxide gas during the period of this blowing. CONSTITUTION:Decarburization is carried out by blowing an oxidizing gas against the bath surface of molten high-carbon ferromanganese while agitating the above molten metal by means of the shaking of a furnace body or the blowing of a gas through a furnace-bottom tuyere. At this time, at least in a part of blowing period in the decarburizing blowing, an oxidizing gas containing carbon dioxide gas is blown via a top-blowing lance. Further, if necessary, at least either of respective feed speeds of the oxidizing gas and the carbon dioxide gas to be blown through the top-blowing lance is changed to regulate the temp. of the molten metal. By this method, the molten-metal temp. is easily controlled and decarburization is rapidly carried out, by which the medium- or low-carbon ferromanganese can be obtained in a high Mn yield.
