Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable the production of a magnetic layer which has always the good surface characteristics as against various drying treatment conditions with high productivity by executing the temp. control to control the temp. of a magnetic recording medium to a desired calender treatment temp. prior to a calender treatment. CONSTITUTION:A temp. control section 3 consists of a pair of temp. control rolls 6 having internally heating means. The temp. control rolls 6 adequately control the heating temp. and heat a base 8 to a desired temp. while nipping the base 8. The base 8 is, therefore, preheated by the temp. control rolls 6 and is then introduced into a calender device 1 and is subjected to the calender treatment if the calender treatment temp. is higher than the drying temp. Since the base 8 is preheated at this time, the magnetic layer on the base can be heated rapidly up to the prescribed calender treatment temp. The optimum surface smoothing treatment of the magnetic layer against the various drying treatment conditions is thereby executed and the good and wrinkle-free magnetic recording medium is obtd. with the good productivity by the high-speed treatment.
