PURPOSE:To raise the collapsing strength of a steel pipe for oil well by subjecting the steel pipe to a heat treatment in which the steel pipe is fixed by a pinch roll under a specifically relative condition of the heating temperature and the pressing force of the pinch roll. CONSTITUTION:In the heat treatment of a long steel pipe D for oil well, the steel pipe D is fixed by a self-weight-cancelling type pinch roll E on outer both ends and plural positions at central part of the heat treatment equipments A, B, and C and heated to a specific temperature under the pressing force of the pinch roll E. In this case, the relation between the heating temperature and the pressing force of the pinch roll E for heat treating steel pipe D is kept to the conditions of temperature and pressing force within the region surrounded by the points A, B, C, and D at the third time. Thereby, steel pipe for oil well, having excellent collapsing strength can be manufactured.
