Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate the fluctuation in the surface temp. of a roll and to improve the resistance to corrosion, heat and wear by forming a resistance heating element layer consisting of a semiconductor to the inner side face of the cylindrical part of the roll formed of a cylindrical ceramics body. CONSTITUTION:The cylindrical part 10 of the hearth roll for a continuous heat treatment furnace is formed of the cylindrical ceramics body 11 and the resistance heating element layer 12 consisting of the semiconductor such as thin dioxide is formed on the inside peripheral face thereof to a uniform thickness. Hub members 20 are joined and integrated to both ends of the cylindrical part 10 to assemble the prescribed hearth roll. The smooth conveyance and uniform heat treatment of a metallic strip are thereby executed. Provision of a desired temp. distribution to the axial direction of the roll at need is also possible.
