Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a prepreg in which no void remains and which is scarcely rejected from nick, by passing a resin-impregnated glass fiber nonwoven cloth between hot rolls during the period from the time when it stays in a dryer to the time when it leaves the dryer. CONSTITUTION:A base comprising a glass fiber nonwoven cloth is passed through an impregnation tank 2, where it is impregnated with a resin by means of, e.g., an impregnation roller 21. The resin-impregnated base 5 is dried by passing it through a dryer 1. To reduce the space necessary for the dryer 1, the resin-impregnated base 5 is turned in the second chamber 13 during the course of its travel from the first chamber 11 to the third chamber 12 provided with a pair of heating rollers 3a and 3b. The guide is performed by means of guide rollers 4. Said pair of heating rollers 3a and 3b are heated by, for example, passing a heating medium through their insides. The reason why the nonwoven cloth is passed through the heating rollers during the drying step in the preparation of prepregs is that bubbles can be easily removed from the resin because it is still soft. By passing the cloth between the hot rollers, bubbles causing voids can be removed from the prepreg.
