Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain an optimum heat resistant limiting temperature, by superposing Al coating on which whiskers of alpha-Al2O3 are formed over the surface of a stainless steel plate having a specific composition to form substrate for catalyst carrier having a heat resistant limiting temperature of 600-1,250 deg.C. CONSTITUTION:A stainless steel plate, after having been annealed and pickled, is coated with Al by vacuum evaporation plating etc., pressed when necessary, and formed into a specified shape, after which whiskers of alpha-Al2O3 is formed over the Al coating which has been heat treated in the air and, further, a coating of gamma-Al2O3 is applied to said Al coating to form substrate for catalyst carriers. The stainless steel of said substrate has a composition represented by the formula I [Cr 3-30wt.%, Al: 0-5wt.%, Si: 0-5wt.%, R(rare-earth element): 0-1wt.%, L(film thickness of Al coating): 0.05-10mum] and has a heat resistant limiting temperature T deg.C in the range of 600-1,250 deg.C.
