PURPOSE:To prevent an apparatus from being deteriorated or being damaged by a method wherein a winding for output voltage detection use is installed in a transformer, its output voltage is compared with an output voltage of a reference power supply and an output of a drive circuit is limited when the output voltage of the winding for output voltage detection use exceeds a prescribed value which has been set by the reference power supply. CONSTITUTION:When an input voltage of a drive circuit 1 is increased, an output voltage of a switching circuit 2 is increased and an output voltage of a transformer 3 is also increased. In this case, an electric current flowing to a winding 11 for output voltage detection use installed in the transformer 3 is also increased. Accordingly, an output voltage of the winding 11 for output voltage detection use becomes more than a normal value; a detected voltage Vb which has been rectified and divided by resistors 16, 17 and a capacitor 20 via a diode 13 is increased due to an output voltage Vs of a reference power supply 21 ; accordingly, an output voltage of a comparison amplifier 23 is decreased; one part of an electric current of the drive circuit 1 flows via a diode 24. As a result, an output voltage of the drive circuit 1 is decreased. Accordingly, the output voltage of the switching circuit 2, the output voltage of the transformer 3 and an output voltage of a rectification circuit 4 are limited to less than prescribed values; it is possible to prevent these circuits and a laser tube 6 from being deteriorated or being damaged.
