CONSTITUTION:The object state detector 1 is equipped with a light source 2, a projection lens 3, a photodetection lens 5, and a photodetecting element 6. Further, the light source 2, lens 3, lens 5, and element 6 are arranged on the same optical axis and the electromagnetic wave is incident on a liquid surface as the object 4 at right angles and reflected. Namely, the detector 1 has its center axis aligned with the optical axis of an optical system. Further, the reflected light converged on the element 6 by the lens 5 is reflected specularlly and mainly by the surface of the liquid. The detector 1 is therefore reduced in size and the state of the object 4 is detected with invariably the same accuracy and reliability.
