Abstract

PURPOSE:To apply large damping force for torsional vibration of a rotating shaft system by providing a torsional vibration damping device including a torsional vibration detecting mechanism, a storage device, an arithmetic processing unit, and a damping mechanism, wherein the damping mechanism has a plurality of permanent magnets, an electromagnetic coil and an electric current control device. CONSTITUTION:The torsional vibration of a rotary shaft 10 is detected by a torsional vibration detecting mechanism (comprising a permanent magnet 12, an electromagnetic coil 13 and an electric current detecting device 15) to output a torsional vibration detecting signal (c). The signal (c) is input to an arithmetic processing unit 19, and the signal (c) and reference data during normal operation of the rotary shaft 10 which is stored in a storage device 18, are compared and computed in the unit 19 to output a control signal (d) for decreasing a difference therebetween. The signal (d) is input to an electric current control device 16 of the damping mechanism. When an electric current flowing through the electromagnetic coil 13 is controlled by the device 16, designated electromagnetic force is generated in the coil 13, so that torsional vibration of the rotary shaft 10 is diminished by interacting magnetic force action with the magnetic force of the permanent magnet 12.
