Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase sensitivity while maintaining high selectivity for a carbon monoxide gas in a state of high temperature, by making a detecting element support a component composed of an oxide of Sc, Y, Ti or the like and a component composed of an oxide of an alkaline earth element. CONSTITUTION:A carbon monoxide gas detecting element 2 of a semiconductor type, which is formed by embedding a platinum coil 1 in the central part of a material and by sintering the same in this state in the shape of a sphere, is interposed on one side of a bridge circuit, and a voltmeter V measuring an output from the detecting element 2 is provided, so as to constitute a detecting device. The detecting element 2 is prepared by making a sintered-type tin oxide semiconductor support a first component composed at least of one kind of the oxides of Sc, Y, Ti, Zr, Hf and Th and a lanthanide group element, and a second component composed at least of the oxides of Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba and other alkaline earth elements. When it is not made to support the second component, an output in the air of the detecting element 2 in a state of high temperature lowers with an increase in the content of the first component. When it is made to support the second component, however, the sensitivity of the detecting element 2 for the carbon monoxide gas is increased with the increase in the content of the first component in the state of high temperature.
