Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a dermal drug for external use, containing an extract from a plant body or cultivated cells of the genus Lavandula as an active ingredient, capable of effectively absorbing ultraviolet rays within the UV-A and UV-B regions, having excellent cell activating activity and effective in suncare cosmetics, medicines, etc. CONSTITUTION:A dermal drug for external use obtained by extracting a plant body or cultivated cells of a plant belonging to the genus Lavandula (preferably just before a flowering period) with an organic solvent or a mixture thereof with water or/and an acidic solvent and containing the resultant extract in an amount of 0.001-30wt.%, preferably 5-10wt.% therein. The extract from biological bodies of the plant body or cultivated cells has the maximum absorption at 330nm and shoulder peaks at 280-320nm and the extract from respective dried bodies has the maximum absorption at about 278nm and shoulder peaks at 300-320nm. Both have excellent absorbing effects at 280-330nm.
