Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent spalling and to uniformly color the surface of an Al member in a short time by dipping the anodized Al member in an electrolytic coloring soln., and impressing plural rectangular-wave voltages having specified frequency and peak voltage. CONSTITUTION:When a colored Al member as the building material is produced, the Al member is previously anodized in an aq. sulfuric acid soln. to form an anodic oxide film having many fine pores on the surface. The member is then dipped in an electrolyte dissolving the metallic salts of Ni, Cu, Se, Sn, etc., in accordance with the desired color tone, and a voltage of a rectangular- wave frequency wherein the positive peak voltage Va is equalized with the negative peak voltage Vc and the positive voltage applying time ta is preferably equalized with the negative voltage applying time tc is impressed. In this case, the absolute values of the positive and negative peak voltages and the rectangular frequency are set in the hatched area in the figure surrounded by A (1Hz, 15V), B (5Hz, 17V), C (10Hz, 19V), D (50Hz, 27V), E (60Hz, 29V), F (60Hz, 33V), G (50Hz, 31V), H (10Hz, 23V), I (5Hz, 21V), and J (1Hz, 19V). A colored layer having uniform density can be formed in a short time.
